If you've ever found yourself worrying about ambient EMF radiation entering your home from things like cell towers or power lines, then you may have wondered what you can even do.
One option you have EMF-blocking curtains (sometimes called anti-radiation curtains) to protect radiation from entering through your windows.
Typically these come in the form of a curtain liner but can be a fantastic way to reduce your ambient EMF radiation exposure.
In this article, I'll talk about what these EMF-blocking curtains are, what they are made of, how they block radiation, and the best products to purchase.
Let's get right to it.
What are EMF-blocking curtains?
If you've read my article on EMF shielding bed canopies, you may be familiar with the various materials typically used to block EMF radiation.
Typically these are a fabric made from some sort of metal capable of shielding EMF radiation such as nickel, copper, aluminum, or silver, combined with a polyester.
The silver material is woven through the polyester to produce a lightweight, tough, and protective fabric.
There are popular brands of this material on the market, such as Blocsilver, but there are also companies that produce the bulk material un-branded and sell it for a lesser price.
This material is used to make curtains, or more commonly, curtain liners.
These curtains typically block over 99% of the EMF radiation that would normally be coming through that window (assuming the curtains are closed, of course).
How They Work
These curtains, like most EMF protection products, including EMF protection clothing, don't block 100% of the radiation.
Instead, the metals (like silver, copper, or nickel) woven into the fabrics, attenuate the radiation as it passes through.
Attenuation is the reduction in force as energy passes through a material.
The more tightly woven the metals, and the more layers that are used, the greater the reduction (measured in decibels/dB).
- 30 dB = 99.9% reduction
- 40 dB = 99.99% reduction
- etc.
Why Does Protecting Windows Matter?
Typically, windows are the weakest link in your home's EMF defense.
Taking what I told you just before about attenuation, understand that the outer walls of your home, and their layers of materials and insulation, do an alright job at reducing the EMF radiation to less harmful levels as it passes through.
However, your windows do almost nothing to attenuate the radiation from cell towers, your neighbor's Wi-Fi, etc.
Why You Might Need EMF Blocking Curtains
Now let's talk a little bit about why you might elect to get some EMF protection for your windows, like EMF blocking curtains.
Here are a few scenarios that this makes especially good sense:
High-Risk Scenarios
- You live near cell towers or 5G antennas: Studies show RF radiation levels spike near cell towers, with the BioInitiative Report 2012 citing increased health risks for those within 500 meters.
- Your home has large windows: Glass offers virtually no protection from EMF radiation.
- Your bedroom or nursery faces power lines: The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) notes potential links between prolonged EMF exposure and health risks.
- You have electromagnetic hypersensitivity (EHS): The World Health Organization (WHO) acknowledges reports of EHS symptoms like headaches and insomnia.
Health Risks of Chronic Exposure
- Sleep disruption: A 2013 study in Electromagnetic Biology and Medicine found RF radiation reduces melatonin production.
- Increased cancer risk: The WHO’s International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) classifies RF radiation as “possibly carcinogenic.”

These are just a few of the hundreds of studies that have been published on the long-term effects of EMF radiation exposure.
Types of EMF Curtains
There are really three main types of EMF curtains that you'll find, or at least, three common ways to keep RF and EMF radiation from entering your home through your windows:
- Liners: Affordable Velcro panels (like Moondream) that attach behind your existing curtains.
- Full Curtains: Heavy-duty options (like BlocSilver) with built-in shielding.
- Window Films: Clear layers that block radiation even when curtains are open.
Key Features To Look For When Buying EMF Blocking Curtains
Not all EMF curtains are created equal.
Here are some of the things I tell people to look out for when purchasing a product like this.
These things apply to lots of other EMF products as well, such as EMF protection clothing.
1. Shielding Effectiveness (dB Rating)
- 40 dB or higher: Blocks 99.99% of RF radiation (ideal for urban areas near cell towers).
- 30–40 dB: Blocks 99.9%
- 20 dB or below: 99% reduction or less
Pro Tip: Check if the brand shares independent lab reports.
2. Material Matters

Best EMF Blocking Curtains
I've tested a number of different EMF-blocking curtains over the years and I've narrowed it down to the three best options that are available right now.
1. Mission Darkness TitanRF Faraday Curtain

Mission Darkness is a line of products from a company called MOS. They make some of the highest quality RF and EMF protection products on the market.
This is partly due to the fact that many of their products are purchased for military or police applications, such as digital forensics.
I've talked about their products before in my articles on the best Faraday bags and the best RF and EMF shielding fabrics.
The curtains use military-grade Faraday fabric constructed with two layers of their “TitanRF Faraday Fabric.”
They say that these curtains provide on average an attenuation of 80dB-120dB, which is about as high as you'll ever see.
The curtains also are blackout, meaning they'll also keep out sunlight and UV rays, reduce noise, and improve energy efficiency.
The curtains themselves were really easy to install, just like any other curtain. They come with metal grommets installed that should work on just about any curtain rod.
I also like that they include a “cut me open” sampling of the fabric layers so you can see how the product is put together.
Overall, these are the best EMF protection curtains that you'll find on the market right now in 2025.

2. Moondream EMF Radiation Blackout Curtain

Moondream has been making and selling quality EMF protection curtains since before I first started working on EMF Academy back in 2017.
Unlike some other EMF curtains that are only curtain liners, Moondream's offering is a full-fledged blackout curtain with integrated shielding.
These are really similar in design and concept to the Mission Darkness ones above.
Here are some of my favorite features of this curtain:
- Effective EMF Shielding: Designed to block radiation from common sources like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and cell phone signals.
- 100% Blackout Effect: Provides complete darkness, making it a great option for bedrooms, nurseries, or home theaters.
One of the nice things about this curtain from Moondream (and the one from Mission Darkness) is that it just looks like an ordinary, high-quality blackout curtain.
This means that you likely won't have to sacrifice the aesthetic you're going for in your home.
One of the downsides compared to other shielding curtains (like the Mission Darkness TitanRF Curtain I reviewed above) is that it doesn’t specify its exact decibel rating for EMF attenuation.
However, Moondream has been tested for radiation blocking and is still one of the best options on the market.
If you’re looking for a curtain that combines radiation shielding, full blackout, and solid aesthetics, this is still one of my top picks.
3. Faraday Defense Silver Fabric Shielding Curtain

The last option I want to talk about is this 100% silver fiber curtain from Faraday Defense.
Unlike the other products on this list, this is not a blackout curtain and does not have the look of a typical curtain.
However, it does offer really good RF radiation blocking at an affordable price.
I know many people that have purchased these, and placed them on a dual curtain rod as an interior curtain, like you might do with a sheer curtain.
This way they can still have an outer curtain to maintain the aesthetic in their home and still have the EMF protection they are looking for.
Can I Make My Own Anti-Radiation Curtains?
Absolutely!
If you're looking for a less expensive and more customizable solution to block EMF radiation from entering your home through your windows, DIY EMF-blocking curtains could be a great option.
The best material I’ve found for this is the Mission Darkness TitanRF Faraday Fabric Kit.
It has all of the military-grade shielding fabric benefits of their curtains and other products, in a kit that is made to be cut, sewn, or taped to make your own DIY EMF protections.
It includes both the material and Faraday tape.
How to Make DIY EMF-Blocking Curtains
- Measure Your Windows:
- Decide on the dimensions you'll need for full window coverage.
- Add extra fabric to account for proper hanging and full overlap.
- Cut the Faraday Fabric to Size:
- The TitanRF Faraday Fabric Kit comes in 1-yard (44” x 36”) sections, but you can purchase more to fit your needs.
- If you need a wider panel, you can overlap pieces and secure them with TitanRF Faraday Tape for full shielding.
- Attach to Existing Curtains (or Make New Ones):
- If you already have blackout curtains, you can sew or clip the TitanRF fabric onto the back as a curtain liner.
- If making standalone EMF-blocking curtains, sew curtain rings or grommets into the fabric for hanging.
- Ensure Full Window Coverage:
- Overlap the curtain edges by at least 6 inches to prevent gaps.
- Consider using Velcro strips or additional Faraday tape along the edges to seal off any open spaces.
- Test Your Shielding:
- Use an EMF meter to check before and after installation.
- A simple test is placing a phone inside the curtain fold—if it loses signal, you know it’s working.
Final Thoughts on EMF Protection Curtains
EMF-blocking curtains can be an effective part of your whole home EMF protection plan.
Although they aren't a perfect solution and should be used in combination with other EMF reduction strategies, they are a great product in a lot of situations.
