Many people, especially those who are electromagnetic hypersensitive, have shielding canopies over their beds to reduce radiation while they sleep. For these individuals, and anyone looking to get a quality nights sleep, an EMF protection sleeping bag is probably a good option.
Most EMF sleeping bags on the market are not what you would traditionally think of as sleeping bags. They usually lack the padding, comfort, and affordability of your average camping sleeping bag. What they do have however, is full protection from EMF radiation.
There are plenty of reasons why purchasing an EMF sleeping bag might be a great option for you. Let’s dive into this a bit deeper and see if we can’t answer some of your questions together.
EMF Sleeping Bag – Why Would You Want One?
If you found your way to EMF Academy, you probably at least have some knowledge as to the dangers of EMF radiation. Let’s quickly cover the basics
Electromagnetic fields, or EMFs, are fields of energy emitted from all types of things, but typically electronics like cell phones, routers, tablets, microwaves, and much more. The World Health Organization (WHO) says that EMF radiation harms us primarily because we have our own electrical and bioelectric fields that these EMFs interact with in adverse ways, leading to all sorts of health issues.
Including, but not even close to limited to:
- Headaches
- Depression
- Skin issues such as prickling of the skin, burning feelings and rashes
- Sleep disturbance and fatique
- Leukemia in children, breast cancer in women, and brain cancers from extended use.
For much more information about the symptoms of EMF radiation, check out this post.
Where does this radiation come from?
EMF radiation is all around us, and has been since the beginning. Even the sun puts of EMF radiation, but our bodies handle this natural radiation fairly well. It is the EMF radiation from man-made devices that can be so harmful.
In your home you’re most likely to find high amounts of radiation from things like:
- Mobile Phones
- Tablets
- Televisions, especially smart televisions
- Routers
- Microwaves
- Computers
- Compact fluorescent light bulbs
- Dirty Electricity
- and many more electronics.
Everyone, whether they know it or not, or feel it or not, is impacted negatively by long term exposure to EMF radiation.
However, some individuals have what is called Electromagnetic Hypersensitivity (EHS). These individuals are highly sensitive to EMF radiation and can often feel increases in radiation around them and feel ill.
So Who Would Want an EMF Sleeping Bag?
Although people with EHS are much more likely to have symptoms such as headaches, fatigue, tingling of the skin and many, they are not necessarily more vulnerable to the long term health effects of EMF radiation such as cancer, heart disease, pre-mature aging and more.
So although people with EHS are much more likely to sleep under a EMF radiation bed canopy like this one, or to purchase an EMF radiation sleeping bag, everyone can benefit from these. These types of solutions block 100% of the EMF radiation and protect the body while you sleep.
This also will dramatically improve the quality and quantity of your sleep. Check out my post on EMF Radiation in the Bedroom for more about EMFs impacting sleep, and tons of tips to eliminate these EMFs.
What Is An EMF Sleeping Bag?
Essentially an EMF sleeping bag is what you would think, it’s like a faraday cage that you can sleep in.
The only quality one on the market seems to be this one on Amazon from a company called Blocbag, so let’s talk a bit about it and it’s features.
So the Blocbag EMF shielded sleeping bag completely blocks radio frequency and microwave radiation.
How Does an EMF Sleeping Bag Block Radiation?
So the Blocbag does this with two different materials. As you can see in the image to the right there is a primary material blocking most of the body, including the bottom part you sleep on, this is made out of Exel shielding fabric. The faceshield is made out of voile shielding fabric.
The voile shielding fabric is made out of 83% polyester, 16% copper and 1% silver and provides 35 dB worth of protection (check out this post for tons of information about what 35 dB of protection means).
Exel shielding fabric is a woven polycotten that has stainless steel fibers woven in that provide the shielding. The excel portion of the EMF sleeping bag is made out of 36% polyester, 36% cotton, and 28% stainless steel fibre.
The Blocbag EMF sleeping bag is 8.2 feet long, and 34 inches wide, so it fits just about everyone comfortably.
Reasons Why You Would Want an EMF Sleeping Bag
First of all, if you’re someone who suffers from EHS, an EMF sleeping bag is a fantastic solution for you. I would hope and assume that you’ve already done things around your home to make it fairly low EMF, including possibly having an EMF canopy on your bed.
The trouble is, when you’re traveling, you won’t have all these conveniences and it can be extremely hard to sleep. This is where an EMF sleeping bag would be an excellent solution as it will allow you to get a good, safe nights sleep while at a friend or family members.
Another potential use for a sleeping bag like this would be to test how much it improves your sleep before you invest an an EMF bed canopy. These canopies can be quite expensive, and although they are likely to dramatically improve your sleep, it’s hard to know before you have it. Getting an EMF sleeping bag would give you the same quality of sleep by blocking 100% of the radiation without the enormous investment.
Can You Make Your Own EMF Sleeping Bag?
Absolutely you can, especially if you have some sewing know-how.
I think to make a simple EMF sleeping bag, you would just need two fabrics.
I would pick up this one for the face shield portion, and this one for the body portion.
With these two fabrics and a bit of DIY gumption, you should be able to put together a comparable sleeping bag to the Blocbag.
